Deva Fortress

Perched atop a volcanic cone overlooking the city of Deva, the fortress bearing the same name seems lifted straight from legend. With a history dating back to the 13th century, the Deva Fortress has witnessed wars, forbidden loves, and betrayals. Its walls, now partially in ruins, still preserve the charm of a turbulent medieval era, while its strategic position offers one of the most breathtaking panoramas in Transylvania.

It is said that Countess Barbara, the wife of John Hunyadi, was imprisoned here, and that the walls were built with human sacrifices to ensure their endurance through time.

The ascent by funicular adds a modern touch to this journey into the past, connecting the city to the legendary summit. Today, the Deva Fortress is not just a tourist attraction, but a symbol of endurance and untold stories, waiting to be rediscovered step by step, among the ancient stones and the wind whispering history
